You are almost certainly underestimating the rate and scale of change right now.
We are living through a period of extreme technological compression. In our many years in technology, we have never seen progress this rapid or fundamental.
The ingredients for building a generational company are also changing. Incrementalism is obsolete. The lean startup is dead. This is the age of expertise freed from doubt, an era for unapologetically maximalist thinkers. The next great breakthrough will come from the researchers exploring fringe areas, the open-source obsessives, or founders taking on a literal moonshot.
Now is the time to admit that we don’t actually know how things will work in the future.
So, in the spirit of loosening our priors, we’re trying an experiment. We want to work with a small set of people working on truly out-there ideas. We will give you $200k on an uncapped SAFE, along with $500k in credits to do so. Use this initial capital to tinker, test your assumptions, and springboard to a seed round that matches the scale of your ambition. And, importantly, do this exploration in the most talent-dense residency in the world. Ambition is infectious.
This isn’t a formal program. We’re trying this to learn something new. Investors can’t see the future. But the best technologists can, and their small views over the horizon mean more than ever.
We don’t know which ideas to ask for, but we do know how they should make us feel: uncomfortable. Six months ago these ideas would have been met with incredulity; six months from now they’ll look inevitable. Anyone who stays comfortable in times of great change is likely to be left behind. That includes us.
If you are interested in discussing further, please let us know, and we’ll reach out if the interest is mutual.
